Oooh, I just saw a small falcon/hawk -- darn, I used to know my birds -- in my tree. It was only about ten feet away. Kestrel! Kestrel, that's what it was. What a lovely creature.

I think it's staking out my yard because last night I discovered that birds had nested in my in-wall air conditioner up here in the studio. How in god's name they got in is a mystery -- there isn't a outside gap in the molding wider than a quarter of an inch that I can see. But well, they're there.

We're in a freak warm spell so the eggs have hatched -- I can hear the peeping through the vents. And I'm sure they'll be grown and gone before I ever need to actually use the unit -- no fear of baby bird puree.

But... what about nest puree? Is there some giant rotor that will chew the (old, nasty) nest to confettii and blow it into my studio come summer?

And what if the next freeze kills the babies? Winter isn't over by a long chalk; I'm kind of afraid they've hatched too soon. Ugh, what if I end up with baby bird corpses in my a.c.? Oh, birds, why you do me like this?

(Hey, grebo, I got a call from one of my old animation buddies yesterday (he did some work on Maria Hill for that new Civil War game that's coming out, heh) and he gave me a number for our old boss. He's still able to do animation out of his house, he's got all the tech. So it can probably happen if your pal wants to go that way.)
