jwaneeta at 01:27pm on 02/01/2005Most of the Xmas stuff is coming down, and in the grand old tradition, the place is a pine-needle disaster.
This is because I chop up the tree bit by bit and feed it into the fireplace over the course of a couple of weeks. It takes that long because I buy cheap, chemically-treated, parking-lot type trees, and even a small branch produces a short but huge burst of flame (the first year I put way too much in for starters and nearly set my chimney on fire.) In the end I have a bare trunk. Last year I had two, and briefly considered starting a log fence. Friends with axes get the trunks for their backyard firepits. And the circle of post-holiday goes round.
I never make resolutions, but I'd really like to improve some things about myself, so, eh: I guess these are resolutions.
Really need to practice more self-denial. Living alone and freelancing, I do almost nothing except according to my own tastes, timing and will, and that can't be spiritually healthy. Self-denial gets a terrible rap, but I was never happier than in the monastery, where one did almost precious little by personal inclination. Can't really replicate monastic conditions, but I'm going to try to get back to rising early, at least. I'm not going to be any more ambitious than that, though.
Except... I really want to take a ballet class. I haven't shifted my flabby ass to do anything more strenuous than walking in forever. Maybe I can actually do something about that. Maybe.
Hm. I just realized resolutions are kinda boring. And that I totally missed a request from the associate producer about numbering boards, so I must hasten away to type a sheepish apology. Resolution: read all emails with strict attention, even if the first part doesn't seem to apply to me. Gah, how embarassing.
While I was off at the cabin, Bush upped the US tsunami relief pledge to 350 million. Japan pledged 500 million. :D Wouldn't it be sweet if the rich countries got into a We're The Most Giving Nation pissing match? Nothing but good could come of that, I think.
Storyboards want to be colorful. They call to me, deploring their black and white condition. Back to work.
