A good day. I got money in the mail, and I made a Target (on sale, finally) cabinet with the power drill my best friend's husband gave me for Christmas. It's in my bizarre bathroom, which is as tall as a grain silo but only an arm's length wide, and has v. little storage. It took several tries, yes. I had everything upside down and backwards and had to unscrew and redo, but in the end I got me a sturdy little cabinet.
I've made all my bookcases, lest you think I'm an utter spaz. But these Target thingies don't come with labels that say A or B, and I'm not much for intuitive carpentry. But anyway, I have what amounts to a new platform for the domestic beasts. They like to be on things, and moved in immediately. To each his own. I put my tiny bag of neglected cosmetics in it.
I also spoke to my editor and found out, to my surprise, that when they send me a cover request it needs to be done OMG right now. Fair enough. I'm new. I scrawled all the other deadlines on my calendar and sat down to do a cover for Booker T Washington, and it went really fast, and they like it. How painless! If only life were this painless all the time!
God, I fell in love with Booker T Washington during this project. What a beautiful face. What a noble man. I drew him on his horse, which he rode around Tuskegee Institute, even though it doesn't appear in the book. Because it appealed to the kid in me, and think it will appeal to the kids who'll read this book. Booker T Washington on the stage of Carnegie Hall, with Mark Twain hanging on his every word? Towering. But I went with noble Booker atop his noble steed.
I'm grateful for my life right now, and for all of you, btw. My life is enriched by this marvelous thing called the flist. I dig you muchly, you keen people. :D
