I wanted to go to a benefit fundraiser tonight for a very worthy cause, but then the local news started shrieking about an eight inch snowfall coming, and scrolling all sorts of closures and warnings omg, and as the world knows I am deeply chicken of driving in heavy snow. (This is a Californian thing.)

I wasn't worried about getting there, really, just getting home. But then I decided I was weak, and got dressed and got into the car and drove all the way to the first large street out of my neighborhood, and there were no other cars about and the road was slippery and my resolve failed. I kept thinking... The Gift of Fear... The Gift of Fear... listen to your instincts, you've got a bad feeling, listen...

There's no shocking end to this story. It just peters out. :) I turned around and went back home and managed to drive the back alley without getting stuck, so. I'll drop off my modest contribution on Monday. No yummy potluck for me tonight -- these Midwesterners ROCK the potluck, if you can only get to their events alive. :)

I did manage to pick up some snow panic!supplies today... a very odd, distracted assortment. A tub of potato salad on sale. Some kind of strange cheese spread (swiss almond? Isn't that an ice cream flavor?) also on sale. A single unripe tomato, on sale. Two cans of off-brand tuna -- the first of my life. I never have to do with off-brand tuna, it just seems chancey to me. I guess I'll find out.

Did I buy crackers for the weird cheese spread? WHY NO I DID NOT. That would have been logical. At home I went through four half empty boxes of ancient stale crackers and found nothing edible, so the cheese spread ended up on Cheezits. It was... strangely okay.

I started a three page fancomic last night, but tomorrow work starts in earnest again, and there are taxes to be done UGH, so I don't know how soon I'll be able to complete it.

So I'm reading ontd_political, and letting the TV natter because I'm saving my dvd of Curb Your Enthusiasm for the bleak weekend. How's everybody? I bet all of you have spring already, dontcha? *wistful*

EDIT: OMG, somebody ratted out scans_daily and got the comm suspended. ARRRRGGGHHH

Did you read my "almost died in a snowstorm" post? Stay home! Eat cheese spread! ;-)

I feel less weak now, thank you. Those that are born to this weather: they can master it. Not me. I know my limits. :)

*cries!* Scans_Daily! :( So sucks that someone would whine about that community. I've met so many cool people off of there, and it's introduced me to so many comics that I hadn't heard of or known about! Such a loss! :(

As for snow, ugh! I live in Florida for a reason!

Fan comic? Did you say fan comic? =D *drool* I want to see! XD

How's your off-brand tuna working out for you? *snicker*

I haven't tried the off brand tuna yet (though I will surely have an appetite after shoveling out :) but here's where scans_daily has bunkered down:

Thanks for the link hun ;) I got it earlier and joined. But even though I signed up to get notifications, I haven't received one yet :/

They're still working out the kinks, I guess. I just bookmarked it and check periodically. :)

I'm not a reader of scans daily but I was under the impression that they didn't post whole works, just excerpts, for the purpose of discussion. Which should make it fair use, or am I missing something?

That's correct: full issue scans were forbidden. But the guy who kicked up a fuss was a professional (It seems) who showed up at the comm and got slagged off by a couple of hysterical fans. If so, it's not truly an issue of copywrite but butthurt, but infringement is the charge and that's why LJ has suspended the comm.

I don't know if there's any recourse. The mods are trying, naturally, but Marvel carries a big stick.

(And see, if a pro was so very pissed off about a few spoilers for a book of his, he might have been satisfied with them being removed immediately, which they were. There was no need to go to LJ and have an entire comm destroyed.*)

*If it indeed was him, which... well, somebody saved a cap of the conversation where he said he was going to do something like this.

I saw it pop up on fandom_lounge and read the thread about the author suspected of causing this. If it turns out to be him, I'll make sure to stay away of any of his work. Particularly since it appears he claimed that the entire comic was posted which doesn't seem to have been the case at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dreamwidth and Archive of our Own launch; it's time we get sites that won't be bullied by big corporations but who'll at least try to stick up for the rights of their users.

I am very glad you listened to your fear. That is my good girl.

Living on shreds of tuna and gruesome cheese spread and Cheezits is a small price to pay (though really - swiss almond? Ick).

p.s. crocuses and narcissus are bursting out all over the garden. Definitely spring.

I still feel kind of remorseful for not showing up, but tow trucks are expensive. :)
