“Spike! What a thing to say. I am the portress here. I guard the door and make sure nobody kills my sisters. When I have done my penance for years and years, Our Savior will bring me to heaven in a chariot of fire, and Saint Catherine will carry my train. And all the cherubim will shoot things at me, and the Blessed Virgin will cover me with her mantle forever, and the gates of --“

“Good plan,” said Spike. “Has anyone tried to kill your nuns, love?”

“Not yet,” replied Dru, giving Angel a severe look.

Andrew was swaying, chalky about the lips and gills. “It said, the woman he loves is with the nuns at Port Royale. I didn’t – I couldn’t – Oh, God, I’m so sorry, Spike. It’s like a magic eight ball!”

I love the way you stick with your chosen style and yet manage to keep everyone in character.

I would have liked more Purgatory discussion, but I understand not everyone gets that:)

Oh, me too! I'd really love to explore some of the really, uh, colorful stuff about Purgatory. But yeah, not terribly accesible. :)

I did a limbo fic once, but purgatory would be lots of fun. I don't remember many of the details about either. I just remember that after Vatican II, they both seemed to disappear, and we all hoped something had been done with all the souls trapped there. After all, I'd offered up every belly ache and pain from my mother dragging the comb through my tangles to them for years! Not to mention all those pagan babies we'd collected money to baptize. What happened to all the ones we'd failed by buying licorice with our lunch money instead?

It must run in the family. My younger daughter just read me a bit of her latest fanfic, in which a character is dropped into a hell with Walmart greeters at the gates. There are law offices, and the entire inferno is being run on contract by AOL, with the smilies of agony offering eternal torment.
