I know. I was heartsick when I heard this today. LJ introduced me to someone who likely to be "rooted out" for his orientation, even though he has chosen to be celebate. (Which is a whole other issue for another day.)

The report I heard on NPR said that the motivation for this is the belief in the correlation between homosexual priests and the "current sexual scandals." It is painful to me that those in positions of influence and power can't get the simple fact that being attracted to adults of the same gender (i.e. homosexual attraction) is completely different than being attracted to children, be they the same gender or not. Seek out the pediphiles. If they insist, seek out those priests, regardless of orientation, who are not being true to the promise to be celebate, but all those who identify as gay, regardless of the level of activity?
